Retro-Fit Double Glazing
Retro-Fit double glazing is the process of replacing your existing single glazing with insulating glass units (#IGUs). The process is quick and unobtrusive. The only difference you will notice is a more comfortable temperature all year round.
Using your existing frames means a cost saving of between 30 and 40% over installing whole new windows. However, this is not a low quality, clip-on solution. Richmond Glass IGU solutions are purpose built for each home, and meet the highest construction standards. All materials can be colour matched to suit your existing window frames.
High performance double glazing can reduce heat loss by up to 73% when compared to single glazing. Even a modern, well-insulated home may still lose up to 50% of interior heat through single glazed windows. The more glass area you have, the higher your energy loss.
Types of Double Glazing
All double glazing will prove hugely beneficial over single glazed windows. When deciding on what double glazing solution to go with, it’s important to know the difference and how they improve your living environment. Find out more below.
Timber Retrofitting
As New Zealanders we love the look and feel of our beautiful old character homes, and maintaining that character is important – especially when it comes to the windows. Wooden-framed windows have an almost magical appeal, while at the same time they can be cold and drafty - sucking out expensive heat, and letting in drafts and noise– not to mention the endless wiping required due to condensation.
Aluminium Retrofitting
Richmond Glass are Retro-Fit double glazing specialists and can install IGUs into any existing aluminium frame of any size or shape, and with any finish. With us, there will be no change to the appearance of your windows from the inside, and virtually none from the outside. The real difference will be in how your home feels.
Retro-Fit for Aluminium-Framed Windows
If you have aluminium-framed windows, a Retro-Fit may be as simple as replacing the existing exterior glass beads with the manufacturer's double-glazing beads. Where that's not possible, Richmond Glass can work with our suppliers to provide a multi-fit retaining bead and, where necessary, fit new opening sashes.
The new beads and sashes are powder-coated or anodised to closely match the colour of your existing window frame.
Richmond Glass will measure your windows, the new units will be made and a date set for installation by our expert team. Unless you look closely you will probably never notice the change - except the temperature inside your home, the reduction in condensation and your increased comfort.
Retro-Fit for Timber Framed Windows
If you have timber joinery, a special Retro-Fit adaptor is used or the joinery is altered to accept the double glazed unit - so you can retain the look and feel of your character home… with no more cold, damp and drafty windows.
There will be no change to the appearance of your timber windows from the inside, and virtually none from the outside. We can fit IGUs into existing timber windows of any size or shape, including difficult leadlights and feature windows.
The team here at Richmond Glass have extensive experience in double glazing installations, for old and new homes, as well as commercial properties.
Double glazing effectiveness is measured in R-Values. The MBIE’s R-Values information can be viewed on their website.
